MUKAH: Entrepreneurship requires not only knowledge and skills but also values and ethics.

Tellian Assemblyman, Royston Valentine, said that young entrepreneurs must be educated on integrity, social responsibility, and sound decision-making.

“These values and ethics are the main keys to ensuring long-term business sustainability,” he said.

He said this in his speech at the Program Pemerkasaan Usahawan Berjaya (PROPUB) held at Kingwood Hotel here on Friday.

Touching on the programme, Royston explained that it focused on two groups – local entrepreneurs and individuals with potential to become entrepreneurs.

He noted that the initiative is an inclusive and high-impact approach aligned with the government’s agenda to empower vulnerable groups and youth through entrepreneurial opportunities.

“Through the implementation of systematic entrepreneurial modules, the programme introduces essential foundations such as entrepreneurial mindset development, business management, finance, and legal business registration.

“This approach is very important because many small entrepreneurs need business knowledge to ensure their ventures become sustainable sources of income and independence over the long term.

“With exposure to the right knowledge, methods and processes, it will certainly instil confidence and open up opportunities to access financial aid, grants and advanced training from government agencies,” he added.

In this regard, he believes that with continuous guidance and support, more youths and community members will dare to venture into entrepreneurship in a structured and legal manner.

He also supported the programme’s interactive, practical and results-oriented approach, emphasising that he does not want entrepreneurship programmes to be mere empty lectures.

He added that the most important thing is for the knowledge and skills taught to be applicable in the real world to build products and services, generate income, manage cash flow, and grow businesses.

Meanwhile, Royston expressed hope that this effort would be continued in stages and become the beginning of broader collaborations, including with other agencies and financial institutions, to provide solid support for the participants.

Earlier, a townhall session was held during PROPUB, serving as a crucial platform to empower young entrepreneurs, especially in the Tellian state constituency.

The event was organised by the Tellian Service Centre, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Branch, Mukah Campus, in collaboration with Politeknik Mukah (PMU), and received full support from Royston.

It was attended by 60 participants from the target groups and youths.
