SIBU: Various events were contested during the Watersports of Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) of SK Kampung Bungan here recently. Among them were Tunnel Boat, Sport Boat Fibre, Long Boat Racing, Long Boat Fibre and others.

The water sports attracted the participation of racers from Brunei, besides teams from the central region, said chairperson of PTA of SK Kampung Bungan Angela Samy adding this water sports of PTA SK Kampung Bungan had entered its third year.

Meanwhile, the United People’s Party (UPP) Community Service Board (Sibu) is ready to work with the school’s PTA in promoting water sports next year. Its chairman Dato Andrew Wong, said the collaboration is important in order to do more promotions for water sports.

“I hope that in the coming year, we will be able to work together to make more promotions especially around Sibu,” he said when officiating at the Water Sports of PTA SK Kampung Bungan held at the school’s jetty recently.

Also present were deputy chairman of UPP Community Service Board (Sibu) Andrew Shilling, headmaster of SK Kampung Bungan Ephrem Ya Bangir, chairperson of PTA SK Kampung Bungan Angela Samy, village chief of Bungan Besar Sulaiman Hassim, village chief of Bungan Kecil Mohamad Musa Abdullah and others.

According to Wong, many young people from Sibu are keen to come to Kampung Bungan and watch water sports, especially speedboat racing.

He therefore said that promotion of water sports for next year should be more vibrant and to cover Sibu. “This event is very good. I heard that racers from Brunei are taking part in the event,” he said. Other sida events held during the programme included blowpipe competition and karaoke contest for teenagers and adults.
