KUCHING: Traffic flow throughout Sarawak has been reported to be smooth and there are fewer vehicles on the road following the announcement of movement control order (MCO) 3.0.

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said based on monitoring by the traffic department in all police districts, there is no increase of vehicles on the roads.

“Even then, vehicles are estimated to be down by 60 percent. The same goes for inter-zone and district movements, which has been reduced by 60 percent.

“Traffic flow conditions in most areas are currently going smooth and there have been no unusual traffic congestion,” he said.

In some areas such as the city area Bintulu, there are slightly more vehicles moving slowly due to careful inspections made by police officers on duty at roadblocks.

Alexson noted that inspections must be conducted thoroughly to ensure that no one violates the standard operating procedures (SOPs) as issued by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

These include inspections in terms of the permitted passenger load and whether the driver has a valid travel permit and other SOPs.
