KUCHING: A fire ripped through two adjoining shophouses used as a car workshop along Jalan Kwong Lee Bank, damaging both units and destroying several vehicles last night (Jan 21).
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 7.27 pm incident.
The fire involved two permanent-structure premises with one unit about 60 per cent damaged, while the adjacent unit sustained about 30 per cent damage.
Two vehicles were completely destroyed, while two others and a forklift were partially damaged.
Firefighters from Padungan and Tabuan Jaya stations were dispatched to the scene and carried out extinguishing works using water supplied from a nearby fire hydrant.
The team managed to save two vehicles from being engulfed in flames, and brought the fire under control at 8.29 pm.
Overhaul works followed suit to ensure no risk of reignition before the operation ended at 9.06 pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
