KUCHING: Police have arrested a food vendor in the city for allegedly possessing child and adult sexual material during a joint operation with foreign authorities on Sunday (Mar 16).
This was confirmed by Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Sexual, Women and Children Division (D11) principal assistant director SAC Siti Kamsiah Hassan.
Following the arrest, it led the authorities to discover various materials containing elements of child and adult sexual abuse on the suspect’s phone.
“During interrogation, the 36-year-old admitted to keeping the materials for personal pleasure.
“Further investigations also confirmed that the sexual materials on his phone did not involve local children,” she said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for possessing child pornography.
If convicted, the suspect faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
