Veteran journalists set for recognition at NSJA golden jubilee

MIRI: Thirty-eight veteran journalists from northern Sarawak will receive long service awards for their enduring commitment to the industry here on Friday (April 25).

They will be honoured at the 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee dinner of the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA).

The event, themed ‘Towards Press Freedom and Professionalism’, is expected to draw a crowd of over 600 guests.

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian will be in attendance along with Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.

The dinner will also be graced by several high-profile dignitaries including Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Deputy Minister, Datuk Sebastian Ting; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Public Relations), Datuk Abdullah Saidol; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala; Federal Health Deputy Minister, Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni; Miri Mayor, Yii Siew Sang; Telang Usan assemblyman, Datuk Dennis Ngau; and Miri Member of Parliament, Chiew Choon Man.

In addition to the long service awards, the NSJA will also bestow the Leadership Contribution Award upon former presidents who also had served as presidents of the Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association.

Founded on March 4, 1975, NSJA has long served as a pillar of support and solidarity for media professionals in northern Sarawak.
