KUCHING: Vietnam has stamped its mark on the Sarawak International Open DanceSport Championship 2025, taking top honours in both Latin and breaking categories at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here, last night (Sept 20).
The championship, organised by the Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA), gathered competitors from Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, China, and India.

Vietnamese duo Gia Bao Pham and Chau Anh Vu dominated the Grade A Open Latin category, securing first place ahead of Thailand’s Chayangkoon Yuttanarittikai and Rasawan Kultan, with Sarawak’s own Vincent Jun Tong Bong and Sin Yee Voon from ADS taking third.
Vietnam continued its winning streak in the Female Solo Adult Latin category, with Van Dung claiming the top spot, demonstrating the country’s strong presence at the championship.
In the breaking category, Tran Xuan Thuy of Vietnam wowed the crowd in the Breaking B Girl division. At 28, and having been breaking for five years, she was competing in Malaysia for the first time, taking home RM600 for her victory.
Singapore’s Liz Tan, 24, was runners-up and won RM300, describing breaking as both her hobby and passion.
On the men’s side, Sabah’s Firdaus Sora, 27, from Tawau and now residing in Kuala Lumpur, impressed judges to win RM600 in the Breaking B Boy category after 11 years of experience.
The runners-up spot went to Mohammad Farhan, 27, from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, who has been dancing for 11 years and took home RM300.
The championship was sanctioned by the Malaysia DanceSport Federation (MYDF) and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP).
Among those present to witness the dances were Sarawak Sports Corporation acting chief executive officer Khairul Nizam Morshidi and Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA) president Chester Lim.
