SELANGAU: Selangau Member of Parliament (MP), Edwin Banta, has called on all Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) to submit development project requests based on their priority and relevance to the needs of longhouse and village residents.
He pointed out that some committees have submitted multiple applications at once, sometimes three or four simultaneously, but reminded them that approvals are subject to the availability of funds at any given time.
“I hope everyone can be patient, as allocations are disbursed in phases.
“Whether the allocation is from the state or federal government, it remains limited, especially when compared to the more than 800 longhouses and villages in the Selangau parliamentary constituency, which covers the Selangau and Tatau districts as well as parts of the Mukah and Sibu districts,” he said.
He said this during the ‘Jiwa Komuniti MADANI Kemasyarakatan’ programme at Rumah Ngian, Pelugau here on Wednesday.
Edwin also stressed the importance of cooperation between grassroots leaders and government agencies to ensure that development priorities are well-structured and genuinely benefit the local communities.
“The people’s support for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is crucial, as the coalition has brought tangible development and change to our area,” he added.
He asserted that the local defeat in the 2018 General Election served as a stark lesson, as many constituencies lost substantial funding during the subsequent five years.
