PADAWAN: About 300 residents in four villages in the rural areas of Padawan celebrated Christmas extra special this year following the completion of two new roads in October.
The two R3-standard (two-lane single carriageway) roads – a 2.8km stretch of Jalan Kakas-Jalan Kiding (costing RM4.7 million) and another 3.2km stretch of Jalan Parang-Jalan Sapit (costing RM4.9 million) – were declared open by Transportation Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil yesterday.
Dr Jerip said with the completion of the two roads, it would facilitate the residents of the four Bidayuh villages in their daily movements and helped increase their economic activities as well as the standard of living.
“This is the most valuable Christmas gift for the residents of these four villages as they have been waiting for such facility for a very long time,” he said.
According to him, the construction of the project was approved by the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem when he was the chief minister.
Dr Jerip believes that the four villages located along the border of Sarawak-West Kalimantan, Indonesia, have the potentials to be developed into a trade centre once the Immigration Department and the Customs Department’s posts are established in the area. – Bernama
