The crocodile carcass stuck among the tree branches at the Saeh River, Niah in Miri.

NIAH: A crocodile was found dead at the Saeh River (Saeh Putih) on Friday, raising safety concerns among the people residing along the river.

It was not known how and when the three-metre-long reptile died. It was understood that residents from a nearby longhouse refused to retrieve the carcass near the riverbank.

According to one of the residents who requested anonymity, an oil palm grower was passing through the area at around 9.00am when he saw a white object stuck among the tree branches near the riverbank and after a closer look, he realised it was a dead crocodile.

Following the discovery of the crocodile carcass in the river, villagers living in Saeh Putih and Saeh Merah areas have expressed concern over their safety as they fear that the Seah River might be infested with crocodiles.

The villages urged the relevant authorities to monitor the river and keep the river free from crocodiles for their safety.
