TATAU: Several longhouses here have taken the initiative to put up barricade tapes to mark off each household area to limit and prevent longhouse residents from gathering at the ruai (communal area) for the Gawai celebration.
Among the community leaders who implemented such standard operating procedure (SOP) at their respective longhouses are Tuai Rumah Dora, Tuai Rumah Ulen and Tuai Rumah Janting.
Sarawak Public Communication Unit said this is also in line with the stipulated SOPs for longhouses which allow Gawai celebration to be held in the same household or respective bilik (room) only.
Tatau district acting officer Calvin Ligong and Tatau police chief Jame Reis recently paid a visit to several longhouses here to monitor the implementation of SOPs.
Meanwhile, Kakus assemblyman Datuk John Sikie Tayai also called upon the Dayak communities to emulate the similar initiatives taken by the longhouses.
