MIRI: The actions of a man performing a dangerous stunt to show off along Miri Bypass have backfired, as a 7-second video of his stunt went viral, leading to his arrest by the police.

According to Miri Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, the 21-year-old suspect was arrested at 9:15 pm last night (May 1) on Jalan Senadin.

“One motorcycle was also seized,” he said in a statement on Friday.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM15,000, imprisonment of up to five years, and a suspension of the driving licence for a period of not less than two years.

Farhan urged witnesses to come forward and provide information regarding the incident by contacting the Miri Police Control Centre at 085-433400 or traffic investigation officer,  Inspector Mohd Faizul Abdul Rahim, at 014-8582582.

He also advised motorcyclists to always ride responsibly and exercise caution on the road.

“Do not engage in illegal street racing, modify vehicles from their original structure, or gather by the roadside, causing traffic congestion and noise that disturbs public order.

“The negligence of drivers or riders can pose a danger to themselves and other road users,” he stressed.
