Visit of Qatar’s envoy enhances diplomatic ties

KUCHING: The Ambassador of Qatar to Malaysia, His Excellency Salah Mohammed Al-Sorour, made courtesy visits to two prominent figures in Sarawak today (Feb 27) to strengthen diplomatic ties between Qatar and Sarawak, fostering mutual understanding and long-term cooperation.

Salah visited Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, at the Astana Negeri before proceeding to meet Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra Jaya here.

During his visit to Wan Junaidi, Salah said that the visit also served as a platform to promote Sarawak’s economic potential in Qatar and to strengthen economic cooperation between the two parties.

In their meeting, Salah also informed Wan Junaidi about an invitation extended to Sarawakian business leaders to explore investment opportunities and expand their enterprises in Qatar.

Salah further expressed his appreciation for Sarawak’s vision in using Doha International Airport, Qatar, as a model for the development of Kuching International Airport, which is set to be constructed in Tanjung Embang.

A discussion has also been made on the opening of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), a Malaysian public university that has established a branch in Doha, Qatar.

Meanwhile, during the visit, Wan Junaidi also took the opportunity to share the history of Sarawak as well as the roles of both the federal and state governments to Salah as it is his first official visit to the state.

Also present at the courtesy visit were director of the Sarawak Regional Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Fenny Nuli, along with senior officials from the Embassy of Qatar.
