KUCHING: Malaysia must strengthen its economic fundamentals and social cohesion to weather global uncertainties, said Datuk Richard Wee (pic).
The Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations (SFCA) president noted that Malaysia is facing a volatile and complex economic situation shaped by geopolitical developments affecting both domestic and international trade.
“It is my hope this Malaysia Day that our government, business and social society leaders are able to work together to ensure our economic fundamentals and social fabric remains strong and cohesive.
“By collaborating earnestly and fairly with each other, we can leverage off each other’s strength to ensure that our nation and rakyat continue to prosper,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
On reforms, he stressed the need to focus on fundamentals.
He pointed to reducing budget deficits and borrowings, while also promoting innovation and efficiency through digitalisation and the adoption of new technology in the business ecosystem.
Wee also underlined the role of businesses in driving inclusive growth.
“More companies now recognise their wider impact on society and the environment.”
Providing a harmonious working environment and upholding strong corporate values, he explained, shapes good corporate culture among employees and translates into responsible ways of doing business.
“A business community that embraces good corporate governance and awareness of how it can improve the community and environment that it operates in can contribute effectively towards nation building and inclusive growth,” he said.
