SIBU: Young volleyball hopefuls from across Sarawak gathered here over the weekend for the first phase of the SUKMA 2026 team selection, impressing coaches with strong skills, discipline and commitment during the three-day training camp.
A total of 28 boys from divisions including Sibu, Kuching, Miri, Mukah, Sarikei, Meradong and Limbang were shortlisted for the Phase 1 camp, aimed at building a competitive team to represent Sarawak at the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in 2026.
Coach Pang Sii Chuong expressed satisfaction with the players’ performance and attitude during the camp.
“I’m very happy and satisfied with all the players. They were hardworking, well-disciplined, and showed great potential throughout the sessions,” Pang told Sarawak Tribune recently.
He also gave credit to the coaching staff for their excellent management and to the Sarawak Volleyball Association (SAVA) for their full support and encouragement.
The camp was held under the guidance of SAVA and received strong backing from its chairman, Datuk Moh Wung Ming, who delivered a motivating address to the players on the final day.
“Datuk Moh’s presence and encouragement gave the boys a big morale boost,” Pang added.
Coach Pang said he is looking forward to the second phase of selection, which will be held soon.
Additionally, Coach Stephanie Law, who is also part of the coaching team, said 19 girls showed up for the girls’ session, while others were unable to attend due to school commitments.
“These players came from all over – Sibu, Meradong, Sarikei, Kuching, Mukah and Miri – so we have to prepare early,” she said.
