SIBU: A swift action of the Lanang Volunteer Fire Brigade (LVFB) had prevented a potential fire tragedy when fire suddenly broke out in the kitchen of a residence in Lanang on Tuesday (July 1).
The fire which occurred around 4 pm believed to have started due to unattended cooking equipment, was successfully contained.
LVFB captain, Iing Shii Ngie who happened to be working at a nearby construction site, quickly noticed the fire and rushed to assist.
Together with his fellow colleague, he used a fire extinguisher to control the blaze and ensure everyone’s safety before the arrival of the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel.
No injuries were reported, and the damage was limited to the kitchen area only.
The swift response has been praised by the local community as it highlighted the vital role of volunteer firefighters for neighborhood safety.
