BEKENU: The Miri Youth Association and the Rhema Christian Youth Association have taken proactive measures to support flood-affected communities here.
Both organisations have deployed five boats to distribute essential supplies, including drinking water and biscuits, to flood victims and evacuees at the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bekenu.
According to Miri Youth Association chairman, Matassan Rohani, volunteers have been mobilised to provide additional food aid, as approximately 300 flood victims are currently taking shelter at the PPS, with the number expected to rise.
“The Miri Youth Association is deeply concerned about the impact of this disaster, not only in SMK Bekenu but also in other affected areas such as Lereng Bukit and Pujut Adong,” he stated.
In light of the ongoing relief efforts, Matassan called on the local community in Miri and Bekenu to contribute through the Miri Youth Association to support those affected.
Beyond providing essential supplies, the association has also deployed 30 to 40 volunteers to assist in aid distribution and ensure the well-being of evacuees at the PPS.
