SELANGOR: Miri-born Voon Pei Ling secured bronze in the women’s shot put at SUKMA XXII today (Aug 18) with a best throw of 12.49m.
The 21-year-old’s effort placed her third in the final at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Stadium in Serdang here, earning Sarawak another athletics medal at the Games.

Perlis’ Farhana Izurein dominated the event with a winning throw of 14.22m, which also set a new meet record.
Johor’s Asyherina Kuja took silver after recording 13.76m, finishing 0.46m ahead of Voon.
Voon, representing Sarawak, produced a best effort of 12.49m to complete the podium in the women’s shot put final.
The 21-year-old from Miri was among the three athletes to clear 12 metres, with her performance securing Sarawak’s place in the medal standings for the event.
Farhana’s record-breaking throw proved decisive for the gold, while Asyherina settled for silver.
Voon’s bronze adds another podium finish to Sarawak’s athletics campaign at SUKMA XXII.
