MIRI: A local man was killed after he was struck by a pick-up truck while waiting by the roadside for help along the Pan Borneo Highway near Bukit Song on Wednesday (July 2).

Prior to the accident, the 46-year-old victim had lost control of his Isuzu D-Max and skidded to the roadside before exiting the vehicle to wait for a colleague’s assistance.

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the victim was later hit by a Toyota Hilux driven by a 40-year-old man.

“The Hilux is believed to have gone out of control before veering off the road and crashing into the victim.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, while the Hilux driver escaped unhurt,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Anyone with information on the accident is urged to contact traffic investigation officer Insp Mohd Faizul Ab Rahim at 014-8582582 or 085-430479, or the nearest police station.

Mohd Farhan also reminded road users to exercise caution and obey traffic rules, especially along the hilly and slippery stretch of Jalan Pan Borneo Bukit Song, which has been identified as an accident-prone area.
