SERIAN: The additional pathway at Jalan Pengarah Rahun Debak will connect the existing pedestrian walkway to the intersection of the Serian National Registration Department (JPN), enhancing road user safety.
Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, who conducted a survey to assess the need for a new pedestrian walkway approximately 200 metres long, emphasised the importance of constructing the walkway to protect pedestrians, particularly with the opening of a new health clinic scheduled to operate this year.
John said the current pedestrian walkway only connects the Serian Market roundabout to the JPN intersection and Serian Conference Centre.
However, there is no pedestrian path linking the JPN intersection, the front of Serian Fire Station, the New Health Clinic, and the Serian Administrative Centre.
“To ensure the safety of all road users, we need this 200-metre pedestrian walkway to extend the existing path up to the JPN intersection.
“This is important to provide a safe route for pedestrians using this road, especially when the new health clinic opens,” he said when met by reporters during his survey here on Wednesday (Feb 5)
John urged the Public Works Department (PWD) and Serian District Council (MDS) to take proactive steps to realise the project for the benefit of the community and local residents’ safety.
“If this pedestrian walkway is completed, it will bring significant benefits to the community.
“Besides providing a safer path, it will also ease movement for the public, especially parents sending their children to school and residents accessing the clinic or nearby government offices,” he added.
Also present during the survey was Bukit Semuja Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Albert Andrew.
