KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi mourned the loss of 15 young students in the tragic accident in Gerik, Perak, early Monday morning.
They described it as a great loss not only to the victims’ families but also to the higher education sector in the country.
In a statement issued by Astana Negeri Sarawak they extended their condolences to the families of the Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) students killed in the accident.
“We pray that the deceased are placed among the righteous and the martyrs, and that their families are granted strength and resilience in facing this immense trial.
“In addition, we also pray for the swift recovery of the injured students so they may return to full health,” they said.
Both Wan Junaidi and Fauziah extended their appreciation to the Ministry of Higher Education, UPSI management, rescue teams, and all agencies who have worked tirelessly to provide comprehensive assistance to all victims and their families, including immediate support in medical, psycho-social and welfare aspects.
Wan Junaidi called on all relevant parties to take heed of this tragedy and continue to prioritise safety in all activities involving students and higher learning institutions.
