KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar on Monday (Aug 11) received a specially designed Chancellor’s robe from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) for upcoming official ceremonies.

The robe will be worn during the UNIMAS Statesman Lecture on Sept 12 and the university’s 29th Convocation Ceremony from Nov 3 to 6.

The presentation was led by UNIMAS Corporate Communication Division director Zulkarnaen Ali, accompanied by university staff.

Wan Junaidi’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi was also present.

UNIMAS said the Chancellor’s robe symbolises the academic leadership of Wan Junaidi as the university’s Chancellor and represents the highest role in the academic hierarchy, particularly in higher education, academic excellence and the conferment of degrees to graduates.

The robe’s design incorporates traditional Orang Ulu and Sarawak iconography, maintaining creative motif patterns that reflect the uniqueness of local culture, harmonious living and the enduring bond between people.

Its lapel design carries philosophical themes of life’s purpose, achievement and humanitarian values, depicted through flora and fauna motifs in line with UNIMAS’ aspiration to empower communities for a sustainable future.

Royal blue was chosen as the robe’s primary colour, complemented by red lapels adorned with gold thread embroidery.

The colour signifies wisdom, loyalty and intellectualism, while also reflecting tradition, continued academic excellence and the highest honour in convocation ceremonies.
