SARATOK: A routine New Year patrol in Saratok town took an unexpected turn when police intercepted a suspicious vehicle and uncovered a wanted man with a drug-linked past behind the wheel.
The arrest was made shortly after midnight during ‘Ops Bersepadu Ambang Tahun Baru 2026’, carried out by a mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) team as part of heightened policing ahead of the new year.
Saratok Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie, said the team spotted a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in a suspicious condition before moving in to stop the vehicle for inspection.
“Further checks found that the driver, a 32-year-old local man, was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by Saratok Court after he failed to attend court proceedings on Dec. 22 last year.
“The warrant was linked to a case under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
A urine screening test later showed the suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. Background checks also found that he has two prior records involving drug offences.
Mathew said the suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the police station for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
