MIRI: Warmonger Training Academy Miri celebrated eight golds, three silvers, and the Main Event win by Danny Huang at Miri’s Amateur Muay Thai Challenge 2025 from Oct 31 to Nov 2.
The inaugural event, hosted by Sarawak Muaythai Association and Miri Muaythai Association, marked a significant milestone for the city’s combat sports scene.
Warmonger’s head coach Gavin Mattu described the day as a “giant win” for Miri, praising the support from local leaders including Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department and Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala.
Among the standout performers, Danny Huang claimed the main event champion, while Muhammad Saifuddin and Romero Agan took home semi-pro trophies. Ethan Pasang earned the semi-pro silver medal.
The team’s success extended to eight gold medallists, including Asnurmieza Was, Colin Felix Usang Balan, Paul Stewart Wan, Mohammad Hazafie Ramadhan, Wong Chui Ling, Ryan Laing, Joshua Hii Wei Jun, and Adam Yusuf.
The silver medallists were Patteriuson Rundu, Ronnel Kulleh Laing, and Antonius Joannes.
Coach Mattu expressed optimism that continued support received would help foster youth sports development in Miri and build the city as a leading sports destination in Sarawak and beyond.
“It was a great day for combat sports in Miri and for sports in general — a giant win for the city of Miri.
“We hope that the companies and local leaders who supported the event will continue to do so. We look forward to growing sports opportunities for youth in Miri and building Miri as a sports destination for Sarawak and the world. Miri Sarawak ‘Boleh’,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
The successful challenge has set the stage for future amateur Muay Thai competitions, reinforcing Miri’s growing reputation in the regional combat sports arena.
