ISTANBUL: A container ship operated by French shipping company CMA CGM was subjected to “warning shots” while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, the company said Sunday, confirming that all crew members were safe and no injuries occurred despite reported damage to the vessel.
According to Anadolu Ajansi, the company identified the ship as the CMA CGM Everglade, a French-flagged vessel.
The International Maritime Organization, cited by the news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP), reported that the vessel sustained damage north of Kumzar, Oman, although the extent of the impact was not detailed. No pollution was reported.
According to the company’s statement, the vessel remains operational, with damage limited to some containers.
Several vessels, including the Everglade, reported being fired on by Iranian forces following Tehran’s reversal on reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian officials, the waterway was resealed as a retaliatory measure against the ongoing US blockade of the country’s ports.- BERNAMA-ANADOLU
