KUCHING: Senari Synergy Sdn Bhd reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability by hosting the Waste for Cash Campaign at the Senari Synergy Industrial Complex along Jalan Bako here on Saturday.

The one-day campaign, held from 9 am to 3 pm, aimed to encourage proper waste disposal and responsible environmental behaviour in line with the company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda and sustainable development goals.

Conducted in collaboration with Trienekens for electronic waste collection and Kim Huang Enterprise for a used cooking oil buy-back programme, the initiative sought to reduce illegal dumping while promoting recycling and resource recovery among employees, tenants and nearby communities in Muara Tebas and Demak Laut.

Group managing director Datuk Jefri Ahmad Tambi said that the campaign highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in protecting the environment while providing practical incentives for public participation.

“This campaign not only raises awareness about proper waste disposal but also empowers communities to convert their waste into cash,” he said, adding that the collaboration with Trienekens and Kim Huang Enterprise was instrumental to its success.

Senari Synergy said that the campaign forms part of its broader efforts to foster long-term behavioural change towards responsible waste management and to support the circular economy.

The initiative is also a key component of the group’s ESG strategy, aimed at strengthening environmental stewardship and cultivating a culture of sustainability among employees, tenants of the industrial complex and surrounding communities.

The Senari Synergy Industrial Complex hosts various major developments, including an independent oil terminal for bulk petroleum storage, bitumen storage facilities, LPG bottling plants and PME biodiesel storage.

Other facilities include a palm oil refinery, refined oil packaging plant, as well as oil, gas and chemicals port facilities.

The campaign concluded with strong community participation, underscoring the effectiveness of collaboration between industry players and the public in advancing sustainable waste management practices.
