BAU: Over 170 households in the Serembu constituency received a much-needed boost in the form of water storage tanks as part of the Sarawak government’s initiative to tackle prolonged water supply issues affecting rural communities.

The symbolic handover ceremony, held in Kampung Kopit yesterday (Apr 11), saw 174 water tanks distributed to residents across eight villages which are Kampung Kopit, Kampung Ledan, Kampung Merembeh, Kampung Padang Pan, Kampung Peninjau Lama, Kampung Seropak, Kampung Tringgus Matan, and Rabak.

According to Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh, the initiative serves as both a short-term solution to water disruptions and a long-term effort to improve the quality of life for rural residents through better access to basic amenities.

“This may seem like a simple contribution, but these water tanks are crucial, especially during dry seasons or unexpected water supply disruptions. They will become an important asset in every household,” he said.

Miro emphasised that the distribution reflects the state government’s ongoing commitment to ensure rural areas are not left behind in the state’s development goals under the Sarawak Maju 2030 agenda.

The initiative is expected to enhance cleanliness, public health, and efficient domestic water management for the affected communities.
