KUCHING: Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian stressed Sarawak’s key role in national development, spotlighting the admiration it receives from other states during festivities.

The Deputy Premier, speaking at last night’s Seng-Ong Kong Deity Birthday’s procession appreciation dinner at the Theatre Hotel here, highlighted Sarawak’s progress, framing it not merely as a ceremonial occasion but as a crucial catalyst for nation-building.

“Sarawak, we did it.

“Today, Sarawak serves as a beacon for individuals from across Malaysia who come to witness and participate in the procession, whether they are locals, from Sabah, or from Peninsular Malaysia. It signifies nation-building and unity.

“The procession has elevated Sarawak’s prominence globally, and this is a source of pride for us as Sarawakians,” he said proudly.

He reiterated that the essence of nation building lies in undertaking monumental endeavours, with the procession that happened during last weekend serving as a vital component in this overarching objective.

Sim delineated ambitious objectives for Sarawak, envisioning a thriving and prosperous state by 2030.

“By 2030, our aim is to achieve a substantial increase in household income, supported by strategic investments in critical sectors like banking, ports, and aviation,” he added.

This year, the Seng Ong Kong deity procession boasted 212 contingents and over 20,000 participants, crowding Jalan Wayang from Mar 27 to Apr 1.
