BAU: A retiree’s weekend retreat in Kampung Pejiru was targeted by burglars who broke into the property and made off with about 40 metres of electrical wiring, disrupting ongoing renovation works.
The break-in came to light at around 10.30am yesterday (Aug 5) when the 72-year-old homeowner visited the property to check on workers repainting the house.
One of the workers alerted him that the house was without electricity. Further checks found that about 40 metres of electrical wiring installed inside the house had been cut and stolen.
The homeowner also found that the rear door, which had been secured with a bicycle cable lock, had been cut open. It is believed that the intruder gained entry through the back of the house.
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the homeowner had last visited the property on Aug 3 to supervise the painting works, and the electrical supply was still functioning then.
“The house is not the victim’s primary residence but is used as a family getaway during weekends.
“Forensic officers examined the scene and dusted the rear door for fingerprints but were unable to recover any usable impressions due to the condition of the door and the dusty interior of the house.
“The theft resulted in an estimated loss of RM200,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking, while efforts are ongoing to track down the culprit.
