KUCHING: Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun delivered a stunning performance to defeat national heavyweights Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, clinching the 2025 Malaysia Masters men’s doubles title in a fiercely contested final at Axiata Arena on Sunday.
The last time Malaysia had ever won the title was back in 2013 by the likes of Goh V. Shem and Lim Khim Wah.
The World No. 7 pair burst out with explosive energy, dismantling their senior compatriots 21-12 in the opening set.
Aaron-Wooi Yik, the more seasoned and higher-ranked duo, hit back with a composed 21-15 win in the second.
But it was the younger pair who held their nerve in the decider, surging to a 21-16 victory – securing Malaysia’s first men’s doubles crown at the home tournament after 11 years of wait.
They are also set to receive $37,525 (about RM158,768) as winners other than a trophy and medals.
The win marks another milestone in Wei Chong and Kai Wun’s rising trajectory, having already claimed the 2025 Indonesia Masters title earlier this year with a straight-sets victory over World No. 4 pair, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
