KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court has fined a welder RM5,000, in default six months’ imprisonment, for possessing pornographic videos on his phone last year.
Albert Abum, 34, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to a charge under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
The illegal material was found on Albert’s iPhone 15 Pro at Jalan Perlabuhan around 4.15 pm on January 24, 2024.
Investigations began after a senior police officer received information about child pornography, prompting an investigation into Albert on suspicion of possessing such material. Further checks on his phone revealed the presence of pornographic content, leading to his immediate arrest and the seizure of his phone for further analysis.
Albert admitted to obtaining the videos via WhatsApp, saying that he enjoyed watching and storing the videos but denied any involvement in sexual activities with children.
Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case, while Albert appeared without legal representation.
