PADAWAN: The family of helicopter crash victim Debra Morset will receive financial assistance and counselling support following her demise in the Flying Doctor Service tragedy.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the ministry and its agencies remained ready to support the family as they coped with their loss.
“Losing a loved one so suddenly is never easy, and while this assistance cannot replace the life lost, we hope it can help ease the family’s burden during this difficult period,” she said when met during a visit to the family’s home in Kampung Semedang on Sunday.
During the visit, Nancy presented RM3,000 under the National Welfare Foundation’s PEKA assistance programme to the family.
Debra’s mother, Ranog Rasas, also received RM300 from the Social Welfare Department’s Immediate Relief Fund and has been recommended for monthly elderly assistance of RM600 beginning October.
Applications for the Kenyalang Gold Card and Senior Citizen Health Benefit for Ranog are also being processed by the state Social Welfare Department.
The department had earlier visited Debra’s husband, John Then Hua Ken, on Sept 14 and provided him with RM300 in immediate assistance.
Counselling services through the Kuching Division Social Welfare Office’s psychology officer have also been offered to the family.
Nancy said Debra’s children and other family members remained strong, adding that further counselling support would be made available should they require it.
“We want the grieving family to know that they are not alone and that support is available whenever they need it,” she said.
