KUCHING: Eighty-four strategic partners of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) received recognition for their ongoing support, especially in advancing the initiatives of the Sarawak government.
Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the recognition was not only for their efforts in assisting disaster victims during the recent Northeast Monsoon (MTL) season but also for their contributions to initiatives like the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC), Senior Citizen Health Benefits (SCHB), assistance for kidney patients, medical support, and prosthetic or assistive devices.
“Strategic partners during the MTL disaster were instrumental in the success of the services we provided at the temporary evacuation centers.
“From logistics, manpower, food and essential contributions to victims, and other direct or indirect assistance, we deeply appreciate their efforts, which were highly valued by the flood victims,” she said during an appreciation ceremony for JKM’s strategic partners held at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre (HEEC) on Sunday (Mar 22).
Elaborating on the assistance provided by the state government during the recent flood disaster, Fatimah said that RM15.5 million was allocated to help 123,555 victims from 34,623 families.
Additionally, JKM has provided and managed several forms of assistance such as financial aid, clinical support, and care for cancer and kidney patients as an alternative and complement to the primary healthcare services provided by the Ministry of Health.
“Until February 2025, RM12.5 million has been spent on 813 cases, while medical assistance from 2021 to March 2025 has totaled RM3.1 million, benefiting 136 patients for lifelong treatment continuity,” she added.
Along with the strategic partners, 30 JKM clients from the Kuching Division were also honored, receiving cash and food basket contributions from Fatimah to assist them in preparing for the upcoming Hari Raya.
