KUCHING: Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng continues to play an important role in assisting the community regardless of race or religion by distributing food aid to 112 families in conjunction with this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said the initiative reflects the spirit of unity and compassion that forms the foundation of harmony in Sarawak’s society.
According to her, the welfare efforts carried out by Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng not only help ease the burden of those in need but also provide hope and moral support to families facing life’s challenges.
“Through continuous welfare initiatives, many individuals and families in need not only receive assistance but also gain hope, encouragement and renewed dignity,” she said while speaking at the Hari Raya Contribution Presentation Ceremony organised by the organisation at its premises here on Sunday.
She added that the welfare centre has served the community for 70 years since its establishment on December 16, 1956 and continues to play a significant role in assisting senior citizens and underprivileged families.
In addition to managing a home for the elderly and providing about 100 funeral services each year, the organisation also distributes monthly food aid to more than 427 families regardless of their racial or religious background.
She also praised the centre’s continued commitment to ensuring vulnerable groups have access to basic necessities while helping reduce the financial burden they face.
Meanwhile, she congratulated Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng on its 70th anniversary, describing it as a proud achievement made possible through the dedication of past leaders, committee members, donors and community support.
According to her, the organisation has now become not only a centre for community unity but also a symbol of welfare and compassion that continues to benefit society.
She also expressed appreciation for the organisation’s future initiatives, including the construction of a temple and columbarium project expected to provide long-term benefits to the community.
At the same time, she extended Hari Raya Aidilfitri greetings to all Muslims, emphasising that the celebration is the best time to strengthen family bonds, foster closer relationships and cultivate unity among people of different races.
The event was part of Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the spirit of togetherness and ensure that those in need are not left behind, especially during festive seasons.
