KUCHING: The Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) is collaborating with the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) to deliver clean water and drinking supplies to areas cut off from treated water sources following recent floods.

According to the Deputy Minister for Community Development and Wellbeing, Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam, the full number of victims has yet to be confirmed, but water delivery operations have been going on for the past three days.

“The actual number of those affected is still being identified, but we began supplying clean water three days ago,” he said.

Razi pointed out Subis was among the main location receiving assistance after a waist-deep flood severed road access and damaged major water pipeline routes.

“We have acted through JKMS and JBALB to address the situation as best as possible.

“Our JKMS team has sent bottled drinking water, while JBALB has deployed water tankers to areas where pipelines and main roads have been cut off in Subis,” he said.

Razi added that JKMS personnel have been stationed in flood-risk areas for three consecutive days.

“As of yesterday (Dec11), it is now the third day our officers have been on the ground to identify those affected,” he said while speaking to reporters after officiating the Sarawak Persons with Disabilities (OKU) Day 2025 celebration at the Imperial Hotel on Wednesday.

He said JKMS is also coordinating with district offices to ensure swift distribution of assistance.

“We are working with the district office to ensure help reaches victims as quickly as possible while verifying the extent of the impact,” he added.

Earlier, the Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (JPBB) confirmed damage to the main route connecting the Pan Borneo Highway and the Coastal Highway, causing disruptions to water supply and affecting residents in Subis following flash floods.
