KUCHING: It’s finally official — American alternative rock band, My Chemical Romance (MCR) is coming back to Malaysia next year!

The band, best known for emo anthems like Welcome to the Black Parade, I’m Not Okay (I Promise), and Helena, will rock the stage at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Apr 30, 2026, as part of their South East Asia Tour.

Tickets are expected to go on sale this Wednesday, Jul 10.

The announcement, posted on the band’s official website and Instagram account this morning on local time, confirmed fan’s speculation.

This will be MCR’s first performance in Malaysia since December 2007, when they rocked Stadium Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.

Earlier, excitement had been brewing since two weeks ago, when a digital billboard reading “Malaysia, Are You Okay?” appeared above McDonald’s in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.

The cryptic message — styled in gothic fonts with a black background and a rose symbol — sparked a frenzy among fans.

A short 14-second clip of the billboard first surfaced on Threads before quickly going viral on X.

The phrase echoed lyrics from the band’s 2004 hit I’m Not Okay (I Promise), leading many to believe that MCR was making a comeback.

Now, those fan theories have been confirmed: the Black Parade is truly returning

According to the band’s official website, MCR is currently preparing for their North American tour, which kicks off Jul 11 in Seattle and ends Sept 13 in Tampa, Florida.

In 2026, they’ll head to South America, beginning Jan 22 in Colombia and wrapping up Feb 5 in São Paulo, Brazil, before heading to Asia.

Formed in New Jersey in 2001, MCR consists of Gerard Way (vocals), Ray Toro (lead guitar), Frank Iero (rhythm guitar), and Mikey Way (bass).

The band is considered one of the most influential rock groups of the 2000s and a major act in the pop-punk and emo genres, despite the band rejecting the latter label.

MCR also shares a unique connection with Malaysia: in 2008, they toured with local rap-rock band Pop Shuvit.

In 2023, Pop Shuvit released a single titled Space Between Us, featuring Butterfingers’ frontman Emmet and Ray Toro, who played lead guitar and produced the track.
