KUCHING: The Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) extends its greetings to all Buddhists as they celebrate Wesak, which commemorate the birth, enlightenment and death of Gautama Buddha.

Its chairman, Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute, said the Buddhist community is known for their commitment to living a good life based on the teachings of the Buddha.

“This emphasises the importance of peace and harmony, compassion and kindness, good works and wisdom – virtues and qualities we very much need for a more peaceful, prosperous, harmonious and united nation,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

As a multi-religious, multi-ethnic and multi-cultural nation, Danald urged everyone to appreciate, understand and accept each other.

“We cannot afford to speak or think ill of our neighbour just because they seem to be different from us,” he added.

On the contrary, he emphasised that mutual understanding is essential for truly getting to know one another, allowing the people to celebrate diversity with respect, honor, and acceptance.

“We wish all our Buddhist friends a joyful and meaningful Wesak celebration, and join them in working and praying for a more united, peaceful, harmonious and prosperous Malaysia,” said Danald.
