BETONG: Buoyed by a strong blend of experience and young talent, the Western Zone (Sarikei, Betong, Sri Aman) women’s sepak takraw squad is gearing up for SUKSAR IV 2026 in Lubok Antu.
The team has set its sights on securing a semi-final berth in the competition.
Under the guidance of Mohd Rushdi Sani, the squad is targeting a top-four finish at the upcoming games.
The experienced coach, who is also a native of Kabong, said his team will field a well-balanced lineup for the tournament.
“We will be fielding a total of 14 players at the games.
“The selected squad is a combination of experienced athletes and talented new faces from the women’s sepak takraw development programmes of the Betong Division and the Western Zone Maradong development programme,” Rushdi said recently.
He added that preparations have been progressing smoothly despite time constraints.
“Although our preparations were carried out within a short period, I am confident the selected players will be able to deliver their best performances,” he said.
For the record, the Western Zone team collected three medals at SUKSAR III in Sibu – gold in the quadrant event, silver in the doubles event, and bronze in the regu event.
