BETONG: The Western Zone women’s sepak takraw squad is gearing up to make a strong showing at the 4th Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) 2026, aiming to finish among the top four at the February 3-9 event.

Under the guidance of experienced coach, Mohd Rushdi Sani, a native of Kabong, the team is set to showcase a new level of strength and teamwork at the competition, which will be hosted in Sri Aman and Betong.

Rushdi revealed that the squad will feature 14 players, combining seasoned athletes with fresh talent developed through the women’s sepak takraw programmes in Betong Division and the Western Zone Sepak Takraw development initiative in Maradong.

“Despite the limited preparation time, I am confident in the players’ abilities and believe they will perform at their best during the tournament,” said Rushdi recently.

The coach brings a wealth of experience from domestic competitions, having led the team to win three medals at the previous SUKSAR III held in Sibu – gold in the quadrant event, silver in doubles, and bronze in the regu category.

With high hopes and a focused mindset, the Western Zone team is determined to build on their past success and secure a spot in the semi-finals at SUKSAR IV.
