MOSCOW: A cargo ship carrying wheat sank in the Sea of Azov, with one fatality and missing persons reported, Kherson Governor Vladimir Saldo said on Sunday.
“A bulk carrier sank in the Sea of Azov, with one fatality and missing persons reported,” Saldo said.
Nine crew members from the Volgo-Balt-class bulk carrier have been found ashore, the official said, adding that the first mate died, and two other crew mates are still missing.
Local residents were the first to provide assistance to the crew, who managed to reach the shore in the Kherson region — they met them on shore and helped them until emergency services arrived, Saldo said.
“The sailors are receiving the necessary medical and psychological assistance,” the governor added.
The circumstances of the incident are being investigated, Saldo said. – BERNAMA
