KUALA LUMPUR: A worker who died in a recent road accident was protected under the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) scheme, qualifying his heirs to receive the Survivors’ Pension and related benefits.
SOCSO stated in a press release that the late Luqman Nul Hakim Halim, 36, who worked as an Auxiliary Police officer at Genting Sungei Rayat Estate, was an active contributor under the LINDUNG Pekerja Scheme of the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4).
“A check revealed that the deceased’s last contribution was in December 2025, maintaining his status as an active contributor. Consequently, his family is eligible for full benefits following the tragedy that occurred on January 11.
“All eligible dependents are entitled to a monthly Survivors’ Pension totalling RM1,493.78. This will be paid to his widow, Siti Nabilah Mohd Ridzuan, 39, and their four sons – Lutfan Syawal, Lutfi Syamel, Lutfil Syamin, and Luth Syauqi, aged between nine months and nine years – according to their respective shares,” the statement read.
According to SOCSO, the widow will receive monthly pension benefits for life, while the four children will receive the same until they reach the age of 21, or extended until the completion of their first undergraduate degree.
“Additionally, the family is eligible to receive a one-off Funeral Management Benefit of RM3,000, as provided under Act 4,” the statement added.
The tragedy occurred while the deceased and his family were traveling back to Batu Pahat, Johor, by express bus after visiting his stepmother’s funeral in Jitra, Kedah. The bus they were traveling in collided with a three-tonne truck.
As a result of the collision, Luqman suffered severe injuries and was confirmed dead due to internal injuries complicated by a heart condition.
“As a gesture of concern, the SOCSO Prihatin Squad was mobilised to assist the family. A ‘Ziarah Prihatin’ (Compassionate Visit) was conducted on January 15, alongside the presentation of a ‘Kotak Prihatin’ (Care Box) to ease the family’s burden.
“This tragedy serves as a reminder that continuous contribution compliance by employers is vital to ensure workers and their heirs receive proper social protection when unforeseen disasters strike,” the statement said. -BERNAMA
