BALINGIAN: The Open Kite-Fighting Competition held in conjunction with the Balingian Bederun Festival 2025 saw Gapar Alo’s kite soared to victory, clinching the top prize of RM1,300 and a trophy.
More than 50 participants took part across 128 contest slots in the three-day event, started from Aug 30 to Sept 1 at Balingian Stadium. It was jointly organised by the Persatuan Generasi Melanau Balingian (PGMB) and Kelab Layang-Layang Balingian.
Competitors came from Balingian and surrounding areas including Bintulu, Penipah, Mukah, Judan and Oya.
The second place went to L&S 69KF, taking home RM700 and a trophy, meanwhile Sky 69Kitefighter claimed the third place, receiving RM500 and a trophy.
Securing the fourth place was Ajam Jourdania, winning RM300 and a trophy.
Four consolation prizes of RM150 and hampers for each participant went to Gapar Alo, On-U Balingian Kite Fighter, Aaboy 69Kitefighter and Sky 69Kitefighter.
Prizes were presented by PGMB president and co-chairman of the Balingian Bederun Festival 2025, Hafizzul Abdul Halim, during the closing ceremony yesterday (Sept 1).
