KOTA SAMARAHAN: Wolfpack Rugby Club (RC) arrived at the Warrior Old Boys Rugby Club (WORC) 10s 2026 tournament with a point to prove and a squad built for the future.

Fielding a largely junior and younger lineup, the club made a bold statement about the direction they are heading, placing player development at the heart of their campaign.

The gamble paid immediate dividends as Wolfpack opened their tournament account with a commanding 14-7 victory against Jackal.

The result energised both the players and the club’s coaching staff and served as a signal that this youthful side is ready to compete at a credible level.

“The competition offers young players the opportunity to gain valuable match exposure, sharpen their technical abilities, and adapt to the physical and mental demands of high-level competition,” said Wolfpack RC Coaching and Development Committee Chairman, Felexion Lenggai.

Adding further lustre to the club’s early tournament showing, six Wolfpack players were named in the Sarawak Under-21 squad – a significant honour that underlines the quality being cultivated within the club’s development pipeline.

The players selected are Muhammad Faiz Rahman Masili, Fawwiz Azfar Zaini, Mohamad Wafiq Mohamad Taufik, Muhammad Haikal Abdul Rahman, Wan Shahir Wan Masyor and Fikri Abdullah.

For each of the six, the call-up represents both individual recognition and a validation of Wolfpack’s structured approach to nurturing talent from within.

With 20 teams taking part this year, WORC 10s 2026 has grown into one of the region’s most important platforms for emerging rugby talent.

Felexion noted that the tournament’s expanding participation reflects its growing reputation – not merely as a competition, but as a proving ground where school leavers and up-and-coming athletes can build confidence, sharpen game awareness, and develop the discipline and resilience demanded by high-level rugby.

For Wolfpack RC, the tournament represents something greater than a series of matches.

It is a deliberate pathway – a chance to forge team chemistry, instil character, and expose a new generation of players to the standards required as they progress in the sport.

Competing against strong opposition from across the region, these young players are gaining exactly the kind of experience that cannot be replicated in training alone.

If the opening result is any indication, Wolfpack RC’s investment in youth is already bearing fruit – and the broader rugby community in Sarawak will be watching with keen interest as the tournament unfolds.
