SIBU: Fifteen suspected drug abusers, including a 55-year-old woman, have been rounded up in an anti-drug sweep during a two-day operation.
The National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Sibu said the operation, codenamed ‘Ops Perdana’, was carried out on October 22 and 23.
A total of nine AADK officers and personnel combed several hotspots across Sibu town in a focused crackdown against substance abuse.
The agency said such an operation was part of their proactive strategy to trace and detain individuals involved in drug addiction, ensuring they receive appropriate treatment and rehabilitation – whether through community-based programmes or institutional care under the newly approved Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
In addition, its mission goes beyond arrests as AADK wants to disrupt the supply and demand network for illegal substances in identified areas within Sibu.
Of those detained, 11 individuals aged between 19 and 55, tested positive for methamphetamine during initial urine screenings.
AADK stated that similar operations would continue to be intensified as part of their commitment to achieving the national goal of “Drug-Free 2025.”
