PADAWAN: A local woman was killed after the car she was travelling in rammed into the rear of a lorry at Batu 16, Jalan Kuching–Serian early this morning.
The impact left the victim, identified as Viennie Kathryen Deles, 30, trapped inside the overturned Perodua Kancil.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Siburan station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call at 4.49 am.
Upon arrival, the team confirmed the accident and used rescue tools to extricate the pinned victim from the wreckage.
Paramedics confirmed her death at the scene and her body was handed over to the police for transportation to the hospital.
Before ending the operation at 5.39 am, the team also conducted flushing works to clear the accident debris to ensure the safety of other road users.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
