MEDAMIT: A woman was killed in a motorcycle accident at Kilometre 3, Jalan Pandaruan today after crashing into a beam believed to be linked to ongoing Sarawak Energy Bhd’s (SEB’s) roadside works.

The victim, identified as 43-year-old Faridah Adek, was riding from Kampung Pahlawan to Limbang town on a Modenas motorcycle with her husband, who was riding another motorcycle ahead of her, when the accident occurred at 9:25 am.

While her husband managed to avoid the obstruction, Faridah failed to swerve in time and collided with the beam.

She was flung off the motorcycle and landed by the roadside.

Limbang police chief, Supt Parum Niot, confirmed that the victim succumbed to her injuries while en route to Limbang Hospital in an ambulance.

“The beam was believed to be from an accident involving an excavator that was carrying out roadside works.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

SEB, in confirming the fatal incident, said it occurred in connection with contractor works for the Medamit-Limbang transmission line project.

“Out of respect for the family, Sarawak Energy asks that members of the public avoid speculating on the incident and refrain from spreading unconfirmed news, especially as the incident is under investigation.

“Safety remains a top priority, and a team has been mobilised to the site,” SEB said.

SEB is extending its full cooperation to the authorities.
