SERIAN: A 52-year-old woman was killed in a suspected accidental shooting at her vegetable farm at Kampung Engkeroh Mawang, Tebekang here.
The incident, which occurred at 9:00 am today, involved an 89-year-old man.
Serian district police chief, Superintendent Freddy Bian, who confirmed the case, said the suspect had been arrested and would be remanded to assist in investigations.
“Investigations revealed the cause of the incident was that the suspect had mistaken the victim for a squirrel in her vegetable farm,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted.
Freddy added that the firearm used in the incident was licensed under the name of the suspect’s child.
“It was previously registered under the suspect’s name but was transferred to his child in 2012,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
