BAU: An elderly woman succumbed to her injuries while five of her family members were injured after the car they were travelling in, crashed near Kampung Sepadah yesterday (Oct 13).

The accident happened at around 4.40 pm when a Perodua Bezza driven by a woman with five family members on board, had skidded off the road along KM19, Jalan Bau–Lundu.

As a result, the vehicle veered to the left and crashed into a water pipe belonging to the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB).

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said all six victims sustained injuries and were taken to Bau Hospital for treatment.

“Two of them were transported to the hospital by ambulances from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Civil Defence Force (APM), while four others were rushed to the hospital by members of the public.

“However, a 61-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at 7.33 pm while receiving treatment at the hospital’s emergency unit.

“The other victims, including the driver, are still receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Mohd Haide urged witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward and facilitate investigations by contacting the nearest police station.

He also reminded motorists to always drive carefully, ensure their vehicles are in good condition, and practise defensive driving on the road for everyone’s safety.
