KUCHING: A 49-year-old woman was fined RM3,500, or in default 10 months jail, by the Magistrate’s Court today for swinging a machete at her nephew, injuring his little finger.

Zaleha Mat, from Kampung Tabuan Hilir, pleaded guilty to causing injury to her 21-year-old nephew under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 511.

The incident happened on 18 November at around 11:30 am at an unnumbered house in Kampung Tabuan Hilir.

The fact of the case stated that Zaleha became angry when her nephew, known as ‘Apiq’, mocked her for not having a mobile phone after taking hers.

In a fit of rage, Zaleha swung a machete at her nephew, but he managed to block it, sustaining only a minor cut on his little finger.

It was reported that her phone had been left in a ride-hailing car, and she had asked her nephew to contact the driver.

However, the phone was not returned to her after he retrieved it.

Deputy Public Prosecutor, Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan, handled the prosecution, while Zaleha represented herself in court.
