KOTA SAMARAHAN: The daughter of a blind woman who was seen crawling to seek help was found dead at their home in Jalan Kampung Telok Sabang yesterday (Dec 5), with police estimating she had died more than five days earlier.
Kota Samarahan police chief Superintendent Damataries Lautin said the alert was received at about 6.30 am after the Civil Defence Force (APM) informed police that a woman had been found dead inside the house.
He said officers walked about 150 metres along a narrow footpath to reach the home, where the victim was found decomposed with no signs of foul play.
The 48-year-old victim, who had learning disabilities, lived in the secluded house with her mother, who is blind.
“The mother, Jariyah Su’ut, told investigators her daughter had complained of chest pain and shortness of breath on Nov 30 before collapsing. She tried to revive her but received no response.
“Unable to leave the house or contact anyone, the mother remained inside for several days until the smell forced her to crawl out on Dec 4.
“She reached the main road early the next morning, where she was found by members of the public,” he said in a statement.
The body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem.
The examination confirmed the cause of death as coronary atherosclerosis, with all three heart arteries completely blocked.
Police have classified the case as sudden death (SDR).
